Srinagar, Dec 31, KNT: Traffic Police Rural Kashmir on Wednesday reported a significant improvement in road safety indicators and traffic enforcement outcomes during the year 2025, citing a decline in road accidents and fatalities across its jurisdiction.
Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic Rural Kashmir Ravinder Pal Singh said the department successfully implemented an effective traffic management system across rural Kashmir during the year. He said various remedial measures were taken under the Road Safety Mission, which helped minimise road accidents and related fatalities.
According to official data shared during the briefing, a total of 1,729 road accidents were reported in the jurisdiction of Traffic Rural Kashmir in 2024, resulting in 279 deaths and injuries to 2,398 persons. He said a zero-tolerance policy was adopted against driving by minors and overloading. During the year, 88 challans were issued against juveniles, while 20,402 challans were executed for overloading offences.
The SSP further said that despite adverse climatic conditions and partial damage to the NH-44 stretch between Jekhani and Chinani, traffic flow was managed by diverting vehicles through the Mughal Road. This ensured uninterrupted movement of fruit-laden trucks across mandis in the valley.
He said that up to November 30, 2025, a total of 1,09,278 fruit-laden vehicles were successfully dispatched from Kashmir to other parts of the country, ensuring zero pendency and safeguarding the interests of fruit growers.
The SSP said Traffic Police Rural Kashmir will continue to work on the same trajectory in the coming year, with focus on traffic enforcement and regulation to further improve road safety across rural areas of the valley. [KNT]
