Contact re established with militants in Kishtwar forests, intermittent firing reported


Kishtwar, Jan 22, KNT: Contact was reestablished with militants during an ongoing search operation in the Singhpura Chatroo area of Kishtwar district on Thursday, officials said.

According to officials, security forces were carrying out a cordon and search operation in the forested area when they came under fire from hiding militants, leading to an exchange of gunfire. The operation has been going on for the last 5 days.

Additional reinforcements have been rushed to the spot, and the area has been further cordoned off to prevent the militants from escaping. The operation was continuing at the time of filing this report.

No casualty has been reported so far from either side, officials said adding that choppers have been pressed into service to track the location of the militants. [KNT]
