CPIM workers protest unscheduled power cuts, inflated electricity bills

Kulgam, Jan 10, KNT: Workers of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Saturday staged a protest in South Kashmir’s Kulgam against frequent unscheduled power cuts and what they described as inflated electricity bills being issued to consumers.
Raising slogans, the protesters led by DDC Chairman Muhammad Afzal Parray said that erratic power supply has severely affected daily life, especially during the winter season, while consumers are being burdened with high electricity bills despite prolonged outages. They alleged that there is a wide gap between actual power supply and the billing being done by the authorities.
The protesters said that poor families are the worst affected and are unable to pay hefty electricity bills. They added that many households are struggling to meet basic needs, and the additional financial burden has pushed them into distress.

CPIM workers accused the authorities of failing to ensure a reliable power supply while continuing to issue what they termed as “fatty” bills. They demanded immediate intervention to regulate power cuts, revise electricity bills, and provide relief to economically weaker sections.
They warned that if the issues are not addressed promptly, protests will be intensified in the coming days. The demonstrators urged the administration to take the grievances of inhabitants seriously and ensure a fair and transparent power supply and billing system. [KNT]
