Dilapidated lanes in Eidgah constituency draw locals’ ire

Srinagar, Jan 4, KNT: The lanes and bye lanes of Eidgah Assembly Constituency in Srinagar are in a dilapidated condition, prompting locals to urge the sitting legislator to prioritize development works under the Constituency Development Fund.
Locals from Palapora, Eidgah and Takanwari areas said that inner roads have remained damaged for years, causing daily inconvenience to pedestrians, elderly people and school-going children. They said the condition of lanes worsens during rains, making movement difficult and unsafe.
The locals appealed to MLA Eidgah Mubarak Gul to allocate adequate funds for repairing and upgrading the lanes, stating that basic infrastructure remains neglected despite repeated assurances.
“We voted for development, but even after the completion of elections, the situation remains unchanged,” locals told the news agency Kashmir News Trust. They alleged that there has been no visible improvement on the ground in several interior localities of the constituency.

Some locals further alleged that development funds are being allocated selectively. They claimed that projects are being sanctioned in areas linked to personal or political interests, while genuine and long-pending demands from other localities continue to be ignored.
Locals urged the authorities to carry out an impartial assessment of infrastructure needs across the constituency and ensure equitable distribution of development funds, particularly for inner lanes that form the backbone of daily life in densely populated areas. [KNT]
