Hospital admits CT injector failure, contradicts claim of uninterrupted services, Prescription proves CT advised but not conducted at Sheeren Bagh

Srinagar, Jan 30, KNT: The issue of disrupted CT scan services at the Super Speciality Hospital, Sheeren Bagh in Srinagar has drawn further attention after hospital authorities issued a clarification that differs from patient accounts and documents available with the news agency Kashmir News Trust.

While responding to reports about the CT scan machine remaining defunct for over a month, the hospital claimed that the CT scan unit is fully functional and that only the injector attached to the machine has developed a technical fault, affecting less than two percent of the daily workload and limited to angiography procedures.

However, a CT scan requisition form issued by the same hospital on January 29, 2026, accessed by KNT, tells a different story. The prescription, duly signed and stamped by the consultant of Super Speciality Hospital Sheeren Bagh, clearly advises a CT scan for a patient, indicating clinical necessity. Despite this formal requisition, the scan was not conducted, forcing the patient to return without undergoing the investigation.

Medical experts point out that a CT injector is not a minor accessory, as claimed by the hospital, but a critical component required for contrast-enhanced CT scans, angiography, trauma assessment, stroke evaluation and cancer-related diagnostics. Without a functional injector, a significant category of patients requiring urgent and life-saving investigations is left without services.

The hospital’s assertion that only two percent of workload is affected contradicts its own admission that angiography and contrast CT scans cannot be performed. Patients and attendants have consistently told KNT that they were either sent back or referred to private diagnostic centres due to the unavailability of CT services, especially those requiring contrast studies.

Earlier, residents from far flung areas including north Kashmir had said that nearly 100 patients were being turned away daily due to the non availability of CT scan services. Many of these patients travel long distances in harsh winter conditions, only to be told that the facility is not available, causing financial strain and delay in treatment.

By terming the disruption as minor and denying large scale impact, hospital authorities appear to be attempting to save their skin at the cost of poor patients who rely entirely on government hospitals for specialised diagnostics. The contradiction between the issued CT prescription and the hospital’s claim of uninterrupted services raises serious questions about transparency, accountability and patient care.

Patients and attendants demanded that health authorities come clean on the actual status of CT services at Sheeren Bagh, fix the injector immediately or provide an alternative arrangement, and stop issuing CT prescriptions until the facility is fully operational. [KNT]
