Delhi, Jan 10, KNT: Amid ongoing protests and unrest in parts of Iran, Dr Mohammad Momin Khan, Vice President of the All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA), has expressed serious concern over the safety and security of Indian students pursuing medical education in the country.
In a statement, Dr Khan said that a large number of Indian medical students are currently enrolled in universities across Iran and are facing uncertainty due to the prevailing situation. He stressed that the safety of students must be treated as a priority, urging timely intervention to ensure their protection during the ongoing unrest.

Dr Khan appealed to the Government of India and the Ministry of External Affairs to closely monitor the situation and coordinate with Iranian authorities to safeguard Indian nationals, particularly students living in hostels and rented accommodations near university campuses. He also called for the establishment of clear communication channels so that students can seek immediate assistance in case of emergencies.

Highlighting the anxiety among families back home, Dr Khan said parents are deeply worried about the well being of their wards and are seeking reassurance from authorities. He added that regular advisories, helpline numbers and contingency plans would help reduce panic and provide a sense of security to students.
The AIMSA vice president further urged Indian diplomatic missions in Iran to remain vigilant and proactive, suggesting periodic check ins with student groups and local representatives to assess ground realities.
Protests have been reported from several areas in Iran in recent days, leading to heightened security measures and restrictions in certain localities. While no untoward incident involving Indian students has been reported so far, Dr Khan emphasized that preventive steps are essential to avoid any potential risk. [KNT]
