Major combing operation underway in Kathua forest after encounter
Kathua, Jan 8, KNT: A major combing and search operation is underway in the forest area of Kamadh Nullah in Kathua district following an encounter between security forces and militants, officials said on Thursday.
According to officials, an exchange of fire took place on Thursday between security forces and militants in the area. During the brief encounter, a soldier sustained minor injuries, yesternight and was shifted for medical treatment. His condition is stated to be stable.
Officials said that firing has since stopped, but security forces have launched an extensive combing operation in the dense forest belt to neutralize the threat. Multiple teams of police and other security forces have been deployed to cover a large stretch of the forest area.
As part of the operation, drones have been pressed into service for aerial surveillance, while sniffer dogs are being used to track any movement inside the forest. A large chunk of the forest area has been cordoned off and placed under a tight security siege to prevent the militants from escaping.
