Petrol seized during police raid in Lolab, black marketing case registered


Kupwara, Jan 4, KNT: Police Station Sogam conducted a raid on a shop in the Lolab area of Kupwara and seized petrol being allegedly sold illegally, officials said.

Officials identified the shop owner, a resident of Wani Doursa. During the raid, police found that petrol was being sold in violation of norms and seized 20 bottles of petrol from the shop.

According to police officials, the petrol was allegedly being sold at less than Rs 100 per bottle, indicating black marketing of an essential commodity. The seized petrol was taken into possession on the spot as part of legal action.

In this regard, a case bearing number 2 of 2026 has been registered at Police Station Sogam under Section 287 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 3 and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act.

Police said further investigation has been taken up to ascertain the source of the petrol and to identify whether others were also involved in the illegal activity. Officials said strict action will be taken against anyone found violating the law.

Police have urged shopkeepers and traders to strictly adhere to regulations related to the sale of essential commodities and warned that violations will invite legal consequences. [KNT]
