PWD told to withhold payments of erring contractors in Vijaypur

Jammu, Jan 9, KNT: BJP leader and Vijaypur MLA Chander Prakash Ganga has directed the Public Works Department to immediately halt payments to contractors found to be using substandard material during road macadamization works in the Vijaypur Assembly segment.
The directive was issued after the MLA, along with Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma, conducted inspections of several road projects in the area on Friday morning. During the inspection, the leaders observed alleged use of inferior quality material in macadamisation works, confirming long-standing complaints raised by locals.
Ganga said repeated grievances had been received from inhabitants of the Vijaypur constituency regarding poor-quality road construction, despite sanctioned funds and approved specifications. He said such practices amount to cheating the public and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
He instructed the PWD to withhold all pending payments to contractors involved in the violations until they strictly adhere to prescribed quality standards and reexecute the works using standard material.

“Those who want to earn quick money through cheating and deceit will face strict action. Public funds are meant for durable infrastructure, not for compromised work,” Ganga told the news agency Kashmir News Trust.
The MLA said accountability will be fixed and warned contractors against cutting corners at the cost of public safety and infrastructure quality. He also directed officials to intensify monitoring of road works and ensure quality checks at every stage of execution. [KNT]
