Several booked in Budgam for illegal VPN use, two FIRs registered after security review

Budgam, Jan 3, KNT: Budgam Police have taken action against the use of unauthorised Virtual Private Network services across the district following prohibitory orders issued by the District Administration banning the use of such VPNs.

Police said that systematic verification and monitoring were carried out across Budgam district in compliance with the orders. Since ban, a total of 24 individuals were identified for violating the prohibitory directions.

Based on investigation and detailed technical analysis, police registered two FIRs against individuals found to have adverse militancy-related backgrounds. Officials said the cases highlight the serious security risks associated with the misuse of encrypted digital platforms.

In addition, security proceedings were initiated against eleven individuals aged between 18 and 40 years for non-compliance with the prohibitory orders. Police said these individuals were bound down under Sections 126 and 170 of the BNSS and were later released after due warning. [KNT]
