

Srinagar, Jan 27, KNT: A tourist couple from Kolkata was allegedly robbed by their cab driver in the Banihal area while visiting Kashmir, prompting police to initiate an investigation into the matter, officials said.
According to the complaint lodged by the victims, the cab driver fled with their belongings after dropping them off at Banihal. The couple said they realised the theft soon after the driver left the spot with their luggage and personal items.
Officials said the accused driver has been identified as Amit, a resident of Uttar Pradesh. The vehicle involved in the incident bears registration number UP16 NT 6191.
The victims, particularly the lady namely Uma from Kolkotta have appealed to the authorities to trace the cab and apprehend the driver at the earliest so that their belongings can be recovered. They also urged swift action, citing the distress caused to them during their visit.

Police said they have taken cognizance of the complaint and initiated necessary legal proceedings. Efforts are underway to track the vehicle and locate the accused driver, officials added. [KNT]
