Traffic restrictions, parking plan announced for Republic Day celebrations in Jammu

Jammu, Jan 23, KNT: Jammu Traffic Police have issued a detailed public notice outlining traffic restrictions and designated parking arrangements for the Republic Day 2026 celebrations, with the main function scheduled to be held at MA Stadium, Jammu.

According to the advisory, the traffic and parking plan has been put in place to facilitate smooth movement of the general public, invitees and participants attending the Republic Day celebrations. As part of the arrangements, a total of 29 parking slots have been earmarked at different locations across the city.

Officials said MA Stadium parking will be reserved exclusively for VIPs, while several other locations including Jammu Club, Peer Baba Ground at GGM Science College, Commerce College ground, Old University Campus, Abhinav Theatre, Convention Centre Canal Road, JDA parking areas, Tawi River Front and other identified sites will cater to the general public, participants and invitees.

Special parking slots have also been designated for parade contingents, cultural participants, escort vehicles and Army and Para Military vehicles carrying families. Parade contingents and cultural participants have been directed to use the Peer Baba Ground parking at GGM Science College, while Army and Para Military vehicles carrying families will park inside the Old University Campus and enter the venue through the Commerce College Boys Hostel gate.

Escort and protection vehicles have been instructed to peel off at Jewel Chowk and use the Dry Fruit Mandi and JDA parking slots in an orderly manner. Drivers and personal security officers of escort vehicles have been asked to remain present in their respective vehicles.

For pass holders, the traffic police have made it mandatory to enter only through the earmarked routes and park vehicles strictly in the allotted parking slots. Car passes must be displayed prominently on vehicle windscreens, and no shortcuts or alternate approaches to parking areas will be allowed to avoid last-minute congestion.

Traffic Police have appealed to the public to cooperate with the arrangements, follow traffic diversions and instructions issued by personnel on duty, and plan their travel in advance to avoid inconvenience on the day of the main function.

Officials said adherence to the notified traffic and parking plan will ensure smooth, safe and orderly Republic Day celebrations in Jammu city. [KNT]
