Zanskar marks Republic Day: Administration highlights gains in water supply, power connectivity and infrastructure


Zanskar, Jan 26, KNT: The 77th Republic Day was celebrated with pride and enthusiasm at the Sports Stadium in Zanskar, where Sub Divisional Magistrate Zanskar Omkar Rajendra Gundage, IAS, unfurled the National Flag and took the salute of a ceremonial march past led by the Ladakh Police, followed by NCC cadets and school contingents.
Addressing the gathering, the SDM underlined the constitutional significance of Republic Day and reviewed key developmental achievements in the sub division. He announced that Karsha Block has secured the top national rank under the NITI Aayog Aspirational Blocks Programme, terming it a historic milestone for Zanskar.
He said the achievement reflected coordinated efforts by various departments along with active public participation, and described it as a moment of collective pride for the region.
Highlighting infrastructure related progress, the SDM said compensation linked to the National Highway NH 301 has been almost completed by the Revenue Department. He further said round the clock drinking water supply has been ensured under the Jal Jeevan Mission, while continuous electricity supply is now being provided up to Icher village with support from KREDA Kargil and the Power Development Department.

The SDM also acknowledged the role of multiple departments in strengthening healthcare services, improving educational facilities, enhancing road connectivity and upgrading overall public service delivery in the region.
The Republic Day programme featured cultural performances by students and local groups, adding vibrancy to the celebrations. Several individuals were also felicitated for outstanding achievements at district, state and national levels.
