Cloudy weather, light rain and snowfall forecast in J&K till Feb 3, IMD warns of thunder, gusty winds at several places

Srinagar, Feb 1, KNT: The Meteorological Department has forecast generally cloudy weather across Jammu and Kashmir from February 1 to 3, with intermittent light rain and snowfall over higher reaches, accompanied by thunder and gusty winds at several places.

According to the forecast, weather conditions are expected to remain partly cloudy from February 4 to 6. Another brief spell of light rain or snowfall at a few places is likely on February 7, while the weather is expected to remain generally dry across the Union Territory from February 8 to 10.

The department has advised travellers and transporters to check road and highway conditions before undertaking journeys, particularly in view of snowfall and possible disruptions in higher reaches.

Farmers have been advised to suspend farm operations over the next seven days due to the prevailing and forecast weather conditions.

Residents living in snow bound higher reaches have also been cautioned against venturing into avalanche prone areas during the period, especially following fresh snowfall and fluctuating weather conditions.

Officials said people are advised to remain alert and follow advisories issued by the concerned authorities to avoid inconvenience or risk during the changing weather pattern. [KNT]
