Silence on the Roadside Raises Questions on Human Values in Kathua, Injured Lie Unattended After Accident

Kathua, Feb 3, KNT: A disturbing scene unfolded on Tuesday in the Dayala Chak area of Kathua district, where an apparent lack of basic human values was on display following a road accident that left two persons injured.
A Fortuner vehicle and a motorcycle collided at Dayala Chak Dhalli, throwing the motorcycle riders onto the road. Despite the seriousness of the situation, locals and passersby remained mute spectators as the injured lay on the ground, bleeding.
Eyewitnesses said that for more than ten minutes after the accident, no one came forward to help the injured. People gathered at the spot, watched silently, and recorded videos instead of offering assistance. Such scenes, long considered uncommon in Jammu and Kashmir, raised serious questions about growing apathy and indifference in society.

It was only after the arrival of a concerned individual that the situation changed. The man persuaded those present to assist and personally helped lift the injured, arranging their immediate evacuation from the spot.
Both injured persons were shifted to the Sub-District Hospital Hiranagar for treatment. Their condition was not officially known at the time of filing this report.
The incident has sparked concern among inhabitants of the area, who said fear, hesitation and a declining sense of responsibility were replacing the spirit of compassion traditionally associated with the region.
The episode served as a grim reminder that while accidents may be sudden, the response of society determines whether humanity still holds its ground in moments of crisis. [KNT]
