Youth Held With Contraband During Naka Checking in Gund Area of Kangan


Ganderbal, March 9, KNT: Police in Ganderbal on Sunday apprehended an alleged drug peddler and recovered a charas-like contraband substance from his possession during a naka checking operation in the Gund area of central Kashmir.
The action was carried out as part of the ongoing anti-narcotics drive by police aimed at curbing drug trafficking and peddling in the district.
According to officials, a surprise naka was laid by a police team at Syed Basti Surfraw within the jurisdiction of Police Station Gund as part of routine surveillance and anti-narcotics measures.
During the checking, police noticed a youth approaching from the direction of Syed Basti Surfraw who was allegedly moving in a suspicious manner.

Officials said the police party intercepted the individual and conducted a search during which a charas-like contraband substance was recovered from his possession.
The accused was taken into custody on the spot and later identified as Shabir Ahmad Bokda, son of Sooba Bokda, a resident of Syed Basti Surfraw in Ganderbal district.
Police said the recovered substance was seized on the spot in accordance with legal procedures.
In connection with the incident, a case under FIR No. 04/2026 has been registered at Police Station Gund under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Officials said further investigation into the matter has been initiated to ascertain the source and possible network involved in the alleged narcotics trade.
Police reiterated their commitment to intensify efforts against drug trafficking and said strict legal action will continue against those found involved in narcotics-related activities.
Authorities also appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing information related to drug peddling so that timely action can be taken. [KNT]
