CIK Chargesheets Two in UAPA Case Over Misuse of Social Media in Kashmir


Srinagar, April 1, KNT: Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) has filed a chargesheet against two accused persons in a case related to alleged misuse of social media platforms, officials said.
The chargesheet was presented before the court of the Special Judge designated under the NIA Act in Srinagar.
Officials said the case was registered on the basis of credible inputs indicating involvement of the accused in disseminating false and misleading narratives regarding the situation in Kashmir.
According to investigators, the accused were allegedly acting in coordination with members of a proscribed organization and were engaged in spreading distorted information through social media platforms, including encrypted messaging applications.

Officials said the content was aimed at promoting separatist sentiments and fostering disaffection, hatred and enmity.
Further investigation revealed that the accused were also involved in uploading material intended to create disharmony among different religious groups and provoke unrest, officials added.
Authorities said such activities posed a threat to public order and national security.
After completion of investigation, officials said sufficient evidence had been gathered to establish the involvement of the accused in the alleged offences.
The chargesheet has been filed before the competent court for judicial determination.
CIK officials reiterated their commitment to maintaining public order and said strict action would continue against individuals involved in activities threatening the sovereignty and integrity of the country.
Further proceedings in the case will now be taken up by the court. [KNT]
