DC Srinagar Calls for Purification of KCCI Electoral Rolls Before Elections

Committee Recommends Removal of Ineligible Voters

 

 

Srinagar, Oct 1, KNT: The Office of the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar has directed the Election Commission of the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) to undertake necessary rectifications in the current electoral roll and membership list before conducting elections to the Executive Committee.

The directive, issued on September 30 by the Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, follows the recommendations of a three-member enquiry committee constituted to scrutinize the validity of the electoral roll and membership list of KCCI. The committee was tasked with examining matters raised through various representations in light of the Articles of Association of KCCI.

The enquiry committee, after reviewing the matter, confirmed the requirement for further purification of the electoral roll and recommended immediate corrective steps. It advised the Election Commission of KCCI to remove the names of dead voters and rectify errors and discrepancies in the current list.

The committee further recommended that invalid voters, including deceased members, should be clearly marked on the electoral roll used at the polling center on the day of voting. It stressed that no eligible member should be deprived of the right to vote, while no ineligible voter should be allowed to cast a ballot.

According to the directive, rectification of the voter list is essential to uphold the democratic sanctity of the electoral process and ensure elections are conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner, strictly in line with the Articles of Association of KCCI.

The Deputy Commissioner’s office has advised the Election Commission to make the necessary corrections and schedule the polls at the earliest feasible date, in compliance with the rules governing the Chamber. [KNT]
