Srinagar, Nov 19, KNT: Kashmir experienced a further drop in night temperatures on Tuesday, with Pahalgam emerging as the coldest location in the Union Territory at minus 2.8 degrees Celsius. According to the India Meteorological Department, the temperature in the south Kashmir resort settled 0.7 degrees below normal, marking the sharpest dip of the season so far.
Kupwara and Srinagar also recorded sub-zero temperatures, with both stations registering lows of minus 1.8 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists said the readings reflect a significant departure from normal night temperatures for this time of the year.
Gulmarg, the famous ski resort, reported a minimum of 2.0 degrees, slightly above the usual range but still within cold weather conditions prevailing across the region.

Daytime temperatures, however, remained comparatively milder. Srinagar recorded a maximum of 16.3 degrees, marginally above normal, while Kupwara reached 18.0 degrees, nearly three degrees higher than average for November. Gulmarg logged the lowest daytime maximum in the Valley at 12.4 degrees.
The IMD said the prevailing dry spell is expected to continue in coming days, maintaining cold nights across Kashmir while keeping the Jammu region relatively warm during afternoons. Jammu city recorded a maximum of 24.7 degrees, making it the warmest station in the Union Territory. [KNT]
