Mughal Road opened for limited traffic, LMVs allowed for four hours

Shopian, Jan 4, KNT: Authorities on Sunday announced the reopening of the Mughal Road for limited vehicular traffic, allowing Light Motor Vehicles to ply during a fixed time window.

According to official traffic advisories, the Mughal Road will remain open for LMVs only from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm. The decision follows an on-ground assessment of weather and road conditions along the high-altitude route, particularly around the Peer Ki Gali stretch, which is prone to snowfall and icy conditions during the winter season.

Officials said that no Heavy Motor Vehicles or passenger buses will be allowed to use the road, and only LMVs meeting safety and winter preparedness norms will be permitted. Drivers have been instructed to adhere strictly to traffic directions, avoid unnecessary stoppages, and ensure their vehicles are suitable for cold weather travel.

Traffic authorities cautioned that the movement is subject to change depending on weather conditions and road safety assessments. Commuters have been advised to check the latest traffic updates before starting their journey and to travel only during the notified hours.

The Mughal Road acts as an important alternate link connecting south Kashmir with the Pir Panjal region, and its temporary opening is expected to provide relief to locals and facilitate essential movement during the harsh winter period. [KNT]
