Water leakage near power infrastructure sparks departmental blame game in Srinagar’s Bohri Kadal

Srinagar, Jan 4, KNT: A damaged water pipeline beneath an electric pole at Kalashpora, opposite Nun Gania Masjid in the Bohri Kadal area of Srinagar, has raised serious safety concerns among locals, who allege inaction and a blame game between concerned departments.
According to locals, water has been continuously emanating from beneath the electric pole after an underground pipeline developed a leak. The presence of flowing water near electrical infrastructure has heightened fears of electric shock, particularly for pedestrians, children, and shopkeepers frequenting the area.
Locals told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that repeated complaints were made to both the Public Health Engineering department and the Power Development Department. However, instead of addressing the issue, the two departments have allegedly been passing responsibility to each other, leaving the hazard unattended.
Locals expressed frustration, saying that neither department has taken ownership of the problem despite the evident risk. “Water is leaking right below an electric pole, and both departments are arguing over whose responsibility it is. If something unfortunate happens, who will be held accountable,” they questioned.

The affected spot lies in a busy locality with regular pedestrian movement. People said the situation becomes more dangerous during early mornings and evenings when visibility is low and water spreads across the road surface.
People have urged the authorities to act without further delay, stating that preventive action is far better than responding after a mishap. They demanded immediate repair of the damaged pipeline and inspection of the electric pole to rule out any danger. [KNT]
