Over 18,000 Cyber Fraud Complaints Received in 2025, Says CICE SSP


Srinagar, Jan 15, KNT: Senior Superintendent of Police at the Cyber Investigation Centre for Excellence, Ramesh Gupta, on Thursday stressed the importance of public awareness in preventing cyber frauds, saying timely reporting plays a decisive role in the recovery of defrauded money.
Speaking on cyber safety, SSP Gupta said awareness is the first line of defence against cybercrime and urged people to remain cautious while using digital platforms. He said that during the year 2025, authorities received over 18,000 cyber fraud complaints across the country, including cases from Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that in Jammu and Kashmir alone, cyber frauds amounting to Rs 184.91 crore were reported, out of which Rs 32.64 crore was successfully recovered. He attributed the recovery to prompt reporting by victims, underlining that the golden hour immediately after a cyber fraud is crucial.
“Shortly after a cyber fraud occurs, people should immediately register a complaint. Delay often makes recovery difficult,” he said, appealing to the public to dial helpline number 1930 without hesitation in case of any suspected fraud.
The SSP cautioned people against downloading applications or clicking links from unknown or suspicious sources, saying such actions often lead to financial loss and data compromise. He also advised citizens to safeguard their vital documents to prevent misuse and the creation of mule accounts.
Reiterating the commitment of the cyber police, Gupta said authorities are always available to assist victims and urged people not to feel hesitant or embarrassed about reporting cyber frauds.
He said increased awareness, vigilance, and timely action can significantly reduce cybercrime and protect individuals from financial and personal loss. [KNT]
