Prolonged Wet Spell Forecast in Jammu and Kashmir From Jan 19 to 25

Srinagar, Jan 19, KNT: A prolonged wet spell is expected to affect Jammu and Kashmir from January 19 to January 25, with generally cloudy conditions and intermittent light rain and snow at many places, the MET Centre Srinagar said on Monday.

According to the forecast, light to moderate rain and snow is likely at most locations across the Union Territory, particularly during January 23 and 24. The weather department has also indicated the possibility of heavy rain and snow over parts of the Chenab Valley, the Pir Panjal range, and South Kashmir during this period.

Officials said the extended wet conditions may be accompanied by gusty winds at several places. The weather system could also trigger landslides at vulnerable locations, especially along hilly and mountainous stretches, posing risks to road connectivity.

The advisory has urged travellers to plan their journeys carefully and strictly follow official traffic and weather advisories to avoid inconvenience or danger during the spell. Commuters passing through higher reaches and sensitive zones have been advised to remain cautious.
