Government resolves MBBS college allocation issue for SMVD candidates

Srinagar, Jan 22, KNT: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has resolved the college allocation issue faced by selected MBBS candidates of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME), Kakryal, bringing relief to students awaiting clarity on their admissions.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced the decision, stating that with the issue settled, the Board of Professional Entrance Examinations has initiated the process for counselling, enabling students to proceed with their medical education without further delay.

According to an official notification issued by BOPEE, a physical round of counselling will be conducted to accommodate 50 MBBS students of SMVDIME Kakryal in Government Medical Colleges across Jammu and Kashmir against supernumerary seats created for the academic session 2025 26. The counselling is scheduled to be held on January 24 at 10 am.

The notification states that the decision follows communications from the Medical Assessment and Rating Board of the National Medical Commission and the Health and Medical Education Department, Civil Secretariat, Jammu and Kashmir. The counselling will cover candidates whose names figure in the annexure attached to the notification.

As per the seat matrix, the supernumerary seats will be distributed among various Government Medical Colleges in the Union Territory, including Government Medical College Anantnag and other institutions, to ensure that affected students are suitably accommodated.

Officials said the move brings an end to uncertainty faced by students and parents over the allocation of colleges and allows academic activities to resume smoothly. Students have been advised to adhere strictly to the counselling schedule and reporting instructions issued by BOPEE. [KNT]
