Rajouri, Feb 4, KNT: Fresh allegations of irregularities in recruitment procedures have surfaced at Government Medical College Rajouri, with the All India Medical Students Association raising concerns over what it termed selective and discriminatory implementation of rules in Junior Resident appointments.

The issue was flagged by Dr Mohammad Momin Khan, Vice President of the All India Medical Students Association, who alleged that serving Junior Residents at GMC Rajouri have been allowed to apply for demonstrator posts, while candidates who have already completed their Junior Residency are being barred.

Calling it a clear violation of Article 14 of the Constitution, Dr Khan said the practice undermines the principle of equality and fairness. He maintained that allowing in-service candidates to compete while excluding others with completed residencies amounts to selective enforcement of rules and disproportionately harms unemployed doctors.

According to him, such decisions not only restrict opportunities for qualified candidates but also create an uneven playing field within medical institutions. He warned that continued selective implementation could deepen frustration among young doctors who are already facing limited employment avenues.

Dr Khan urged the Health and Medical Education Department to intervene and ensure uniform application of recruitment norms across institutions. He specifically appealed to the Health Minister to take cognizance of the matter and restore transparency in the selection process at Government Medical College Rajouri.

The allegations have triggered discussion among the medical fraternity, with calls growing for a review of recruitment policies to prevent favoritism and ensure merit-based appointments. Officials from the college and the department were yet to issue a response to the claims at the time of filing this report. [KNT]
