Depriving Ladakh of Constitutional Rights Undermines Federal Structure: Nizamuddin Bhat

Jammu, Feb 13, KNT: Congress legislator Nizamuddin Bhat on Friday said that depriving the people of Ladakh of their constitutional rights was against democratic principles and an assault on the federal structure of the country.

Speaking to reporters, the senior leader of the Indian National Congress alleged that the BJP was attempting to run the country according to its own agenda. He claimed that those who had earlier demanded Union Territory status for Ladakh were now in a dilemma over the evolving situation.

Bhat said that any move which weakens the constitutional safeguards and participatory rights of the people of Ladakh would be detrimental to democratic values. He asserted that federalism is a cornerstone of the Indian Constitution and cannot be compromised for political expediency.

The Congress leader further accused the BJP of promoting a one-party dominance model, stating that the party wished to create a political environment where only one force prevails to rule as per its preferences. He maintained that such an approach would not endure and that political circumstances would eventually change. KNT]
