Adv. Hanjura Raises Concerns Over Land Records Digitisation, Urges Government Intervention

Srinagar, June 6: Chairman of the Kashmir Farmers Federation (KFF), Advocate Ab Rashid Hanjura, on Friday expressed serious concerns over the ongoing land records digitisation process in Jammu and Kashmir, alleging that several lapses in its implementation could adversely affect farmers and landowners across the region.

Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, Adv. Hanjura said that the digitisation exercise is being carried out without adequate ground verification and meaningful participation of farmers, resulting in discrepancies between traditional revenue records and newly created digital entries.

He warned that such inaccuracies could lead to ownership disputes, inheritance-related complications, legal challenges, and difficulties in accessing bank loans and other essential services. The Federation cited instances where landowners’ names were either missing or incorrectly entered, while land measurements in digital records did not match the original revenue documents.

“The digitisation process should only proceed after a comprehensive, transparent, and scientifically conducted land settlement exercise,” Hanjura said.

The KFF demanded that the government temporarily halt the digitisation exercise until proper settlement and physical verification of land records are completed. The Federation also called for the establishment of a robust grievance redressal mechanism, easier public access to land records, and enhanced training and accountability of revenue officials involved in the process.

Reaffirming the Federation’s commitment to protecting the interests of the farming community, he urged the government to ensure that the digitisation process remains transparent, accurate, and fair.

Dr. Gh. Mohammad Rather, Organiser of the Federation, and Media Incharge Sarwar Maqbool were also present during the press conference.
