Massive Crackdown on JeI-Linked Network in Sopore; Searches Underway at 26 Locations

Sopore, August 9: Jammu and Kashmir Police, assisted by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), on Sunday conducted simultaneous searches at 26 locations across Sopore and adjoining areas as part of an ongoing investigation into a case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI).

According to officials, the searches were carried out at the residential premises of several persons suspected of having links with the banned organisation. The operation is aimed at gathering evidence, verifying suspected links and establishing the network allegedly associated with the case.

Among those whose premises were searched were reportedly Nazir Ahmad Mir, son of Ali Mohammad, and Maqbool Mir, son of Afzal Mir, both residents of Goripora Bomai, besides other individuals suspected of links with JeI.

During the searches, police reportedly recovered certain documents and other material from some of the premises. The seized material has been taken into custody for further examination and verification, officials said.

The searches were conducted simultaneously at multiple locations as part of the ongoing investigation. Officials said that further details regarding the material recovered, possible questioning of individuals and other developments will be shared after the verification process is completed.

The operation was still underway when the report was filed, and further details regarding seizures and questioning are awaited.
