Ladakh, Sep 18, KNT: Two labourers were killed and three others injured after loose soil collapsed during road construction work near Jingchan on the road leading to Ralakung village in Zanskar, officials said.
The incident occurred on Thursday when the labourers were engaged in construction work on the road being executed under the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department, Zanskar. The sudden collapse of loose soil trapped two labourers beneath the debris.

An official told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that Ladakh Police personnel from Zanskar Police Station and the Tungri Rescue Team, assisted by the CRPF and Indian Army, launched a rescue operation. After sustained efforts, both labourers were recovered from the debris. Police personnel from the Leh jurisdiction reached the spot after the rescue operation, sources said.
The deceased have been identified as Abdul Hamid, 24, son of Muhammad Safi, and Pawan Kumar, 26, both from Kishtwar.
Three other labourers sustained injuries in the incident and were shifted for medical treatment. They were identified as Ghulam Mohd, 35, son of Mohd Ramzan; Omar Wani, son of Zohar Ahmed; and Muneeb Bashir, son of Bashir Ahmed, all from Kishtwar. Muneeb Bashir was reported to be in stable condition.
All five labourers were working under a J&K-based contractor engaged in the road construction project. [KNT]
