At least 15 goats were burnt alive after a fire broke out at a cowshed of a farmer in a village in Chadora town of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

The incident occurred in Repora hamlet.

Official sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that the fire broke out late at night and the entire cowshed, including cattle feed, was burnt to ashes. The cowshed belonged to one Mukhtar Ahmed Parray son of Ghulam Muhammad Parray, a resident of Repora village who confirmed that 15 goats were charred to death in the fire incident.

“I heard a sound and there was light outside. As I came out, I saw my cowshed in flames. We couldn’t do anything as the intensity of the fire was too high,” one of the family members said.

Police sources said that the exact cause of the fire is not yet ascertained. A case has been registered and an investigation was taken up.

Meanwhile, villagers have appealed to authorities to extend a helping hand to the owner of animals who according to them were the only source of his income. [KNT]
