Srinagar, Sep 30, KNT: Director General of Police (DGP) RR Swain paid his respects to the slain police personnel at what is called the Balidan Stambh (Martyrs’ Memorial) in Pratap Park, Lal Chowk, on his last day of service.
Addressing reporters, Swain reflected on his 30-year tenure, stating that his primary objective had been to ensure the people of Jammu and Kashmir lived in an atmosphere free from fear and intimidation.
“For a police officer, the ‘Balidan Stambh’ is a sacred place, honoring hundreds of fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice,” Swain said adding that it is his duty to pay rich tributes to these brave individuals on my last day.
Swain recounted his journey from SSP to DGP, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve the people of J&K. “I have tried to contribute to lasting peace and dignity in the region with sincerity and dedication,” he emphasized.
The outgoing police chief acknowledged the challenges faced during his tenure but remained optimistic about the progress made. “My goal has been to bring smiles to people’s faces and remove fear. I am thankful to everyone for their support.”
Swain will demit office today, marking the end of his illustrious career. Nalin Prabhat will take over as the new police chief of Jammu and Kashmir. [KNT]
