Engineer Rashid Leads Nocturnal Protest Against Handwara Authorities

 

Handwara, Oct 11, KNT: Engineer Rashid, Member of Parliament for Baramulla Constituency and President of Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), has accused the civil administration and police in Handwara of “high-handedness” and “bureaucratic terrorism”.

During a peaceful night demonstration outside the Police District Headquarters in Handwara, Rashid expressed his discontent over the alleged authoritarian behavior of the district police and civil administration.

Rashid recounted an incident where police had beaten up boys outside an ITI in the district, emphasizing that police personnel are meant to provide protection, not serve as agents of oppression. He also accused the civil administration of harassing locals, urging them to discontinue their harsh modus operandi.

“I will stand by my people no matter what,” Rashid declared, adding that he felt compelled to stage a protest despite not initially planning to do so.
