LG Manoj Sinha assures relief, reconstruction for Kishtwar cloudburst victims


Kishtwar, Aug 16, KNT: Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, on Saturday said that the administration is ensuring immediate relief to families hit by the devastating cloudburst in Kishtwar and promised reconstruction of houses that were damaged in the calamity.
In a statement shared on social media, the Office of the LG said that Manoj Sinha had spoken to senior officials and reviewed the ongoing rescue and relief measures in Chashoti area of Kishtwar. “I will ensure the reconstruction of homes damaged in flash floods. I’ve also directed the senior officials for immediate relief and uninterrupted essential supplies to the affected,” the LG stated.
Rescue and relief operations are continuing in the affected belt with the combined efforts of the district administration, Army, police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). Officials said essential services such as food, drinking water and medical care are being provided on priority to those displaced by the tragedy.
The LG’s assurance has come at a time when local residents and civil society groups are demanding swift rehabilitation measures alongside financial aid. Authorities have reiterated that every possible step will be taken to assist the victims and ensure long-term recovery of the affected communities.

The Kishtwar cloudburst earlier this week left several people dead, injured and displaced, while dozens of homes and public properties were washed away or damaged in flash floods triggered by the sudden downpour. [KNT]
