Army Soldier Dies by Suicide in Gulmarg

 

 

Srinagar, Mar 16, KNT: In a tragic incident, an Army soldier deployed in the upper reaches of Gulmarg in North Kashmir’s Tangmarg area died by suicide on Saturday morning after he shot himself with his service rifle while on duty.

The soldier, identified as Yem Bahadur (5046735), son of Beer Bahadur from Nepal, was serving in the 21 G Camp of Gulmarg. According to Station House Officer Tangmarg, Zahoor Ahmed, the soldier fired two bullets into his head, resulting in instant death.

“It is not clear yet why he took such an extreme step,” the SHO told Kashmir News Trust, adding that the incident occurred during regular duty hours and further investigation is underway to ascertain the motive.

The tragic episode has once again highlighted the mental health challenges faced by security personnel deployed in high-altitude and high-stress zones. [KNT]
