Sonamarg, April 9, KNT: Transporters operating through Sonamarg have raised concerns over the deteriorating condition of the local truck yard, stating that deep potholes and lack of maintenance are causing damage to goods vehicles and disrupting movement.
The yard, used by trucks plying on the Srinagar–Ladakh highway, has developed large pits that have worsened over time, making navigation difficult for drivers and increasing the risk of mechanical damage.
Transporters said that parts of their vehicles are getting loosened due to uneven ground conditions, leading to financial losses and delays in operations.

The situation becomes more challenging during rainfall, as water accumulates in the potholes, creating stagnant pools that further hinder movement within the yard.
Drivers also reported that garbage in and around the yard is not being cleared regularly, resulting in foul smell and unsanitary conditions.
Transporters have urged the concerned authorities to undertake immediate repair work to fill the potholes and improve overall maintenance of the facility.
They said timely intervention is necessary to ensure smooth transport operations along the strategic Srinagar–Ladakh route and to prevent further damage to vehicles.
