Budgam, June 1, KNT: Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) President Hakim Yasin on Saturday alleged that a powerful lobby within the Central Government is actively working against any forward movement on the Kashmir issue, thwarting even the efforts of the Prime Minister.

While addressing a public gathering in Kachwari village of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district, Yasin said the concerns raised by the Hurriyat Conference are largely justified. “Hurriyat knows from experience that the Central Government has never shown seriousness about resolving the Kashmir issue,” he said.

Citing instances of what he called betrayal, Yasin added, “There were moments when the Government of India made promises but later retracted openly, exposing its non-serious approach. If New Delhi is truly sincere, it must initiate meaningful dialogue and bring Hurriyat leaders to the negotiating table.”

He reiterated that the biggest obstacle to progress is a “powerful lobby” that blocks every initiative from Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh aimed at addressing the Kashmir issue. “The autonomy resolution, passed with majority support in the J&K Legislative Assembly, was thrown into the dustbin. That action alone revealed the real strength and intent of India’s democratic setup,” Yasin remarked.

The PDF chief urged the Prime Minister to show political will and start a genuine dialogue process with the Hurriyat leadership for a peaceful and lasting resolution. [KNT]
