Much contrary to the claims of the Jammu and Kashmir Bank that all the Auto Teller Machines are functional in Srinagar city, most of the ATMs in city centre are defunct as a result, Bank customers are facing a lot of inconveniences.
Bank customers could be seen coming out from the ATMs with grim faces as they find machines out of order.
The Jammu and Kashmir Bank ATMs located at Residency Road, Golf Course, Jehangir Chowk, Budshah Chowk, TRC, Amira Kadal, Iqbal Park, Zero Bridge are still defunct,” a Bank customer Manzoor Ahmed told the news agency Kashmir News Trust.
The recent floods have rendered most of the ATMs of Jammu and Kashmir Bank defunct in the city centre. The Bank authorities had claimed that the majority of the ATMs were made functional, however, the picture on the ground is totally different.
Reports said that apart from the city centre, JK Bank ATMs in South Kashmir are not in order as well.
When contacted a JKB official told KNT that all the ATMs will be made functional before Eid.
Meanwhile, the customers of State Bank of India alleged that they are unable to withdraw or deposit cash as most of the Bank employees have fled from the valley.
“I was unable to deposit money as there were only two employees present in SBI Regal chowk Branch,” a customer Bashir Ahmed said.
An SBI official admitted that the Bank is lacking a workforce at this stage as soon after the devastating floods, the Bank employees who are mostly non-Kashmiri’s left the Valley. He added that all those employees have been directed to report to their respective branches without any delay. [KNT]
