Four Friends of Missing Srinagar Scholar to Undergo Narco Tests in Gujarat

Srinagar, July 11, KNT: In a significant development in the four-year-old case of a missing PhD scholar from Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir Police have summoned four of his friends for questioning and confirmed that they will soon undergo Narco Analysis tests in Gujarat.

Hilal Ahmad Dar, a resident of Bemina locality in Srinagar, mysteriously went missing on June 13, 2020, during a trekking expedition to the high-altitude Naranag area in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. While his four companions returned that same evening, Hilal was never seen again. The incident triggered a wave of anguish among his family and the larger community, with repeated protests held over the years demanding a thorough investigation.

Police sources told Kashmir News Trust that the move to conduct Narco Analysis tests on the four friends comes after consistent appeals from Hilal’s family. The four individuals were called to Police Station Kangan for further questioning earlier today.

“These four persons will be subjected to Narco Analysis in the western state of Gujarat. The necessary permissions have been obtained, and a police team will most likely escort them tomorrow,” a senior police officer confirmed to KNT over the phone.

Narco Analysis is an investigative tool involving the intravenous administration of drugs such as sodium pentothal, scopolamine, or sodium amytal, which put the subject into various stages of sedation. Under such conditions, it is believed the subject may reveal information that could otherwise remain concealed.

The disappearance of Hilal Ahmad Dar continues to haunt the Valley, and his family has remained steadfast in their pursuit of truth. The decision to subject his companions to scientific testing marks a new phase in the investigation and could potentially shed light on what transpired that day in Naranag.

Police have so far remained tight-lipped about any specific findings or suspicions but maintained that all leads are being explored. [KNT]
