Hundreds of green trees have sprung up in Tulpow Khonmou area of Srinagar where many cement industries are operating.
“The initiative of planting trees was taken by Khyber Industries with the help of SKUAST in 2017 to check the level of pollution in the area,” Dr Mehraj from SKIAST told the news agency Kashmir News Trust.
He said the sole motive is to turn the area into the green belt.
The plantation drive in the area has started bearing fruits as one can easily see hundreds of evergreen trees blooming much to the satisfaction of the local population.
Bilal Ahmed, one of the employees of Khyber Industries appealed to SKUAST to supply more and more plants so that more plants can be planted to check the menace of air pollution.
Another employee, Manzoor Ahmed Wani emphasized the importance of a healthy ecosystem and how trees play an important role in it. [KNT]
