A day after former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti alleged that under the ‘land to landless’ scheme, the government is attempting to settle outsiders and the list of homeless people is exaggerated, another former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said that Government should clarify who the homeless people in Jammu and Kashmir are.
Omar Abdullah while talking to reporters said that it is very important for the government to verify the homeless and only after the government should issue orders. He said the government should clarify what is the cut-off date of the list it has prepared and whether those people are also included in the list who have recently settled in Jammu and Kashmir and now will claim land.
Meanwhile, Peoples Conference chairman Sajad Lone also demanded clarification from the government.
“Now that questions are being raised. It will be prudent for the state administration to make it clear whether providing land to the landless and homeless, comprises of only the erstwhile domicile holders pre-5 August 2019. Per se if lists have been framed prior to 2019, as asserted by the rural development department, the list will not comprise any newcomers,” Sajad Lone tweeted adding that clarification is a must.
In response to government clarification, Peoples Democratic Party said that either exercise is flawed or intentions are suspect. [KNT]
