Water scarcity sparks protest in Srinagar outskirts, protesters block traffic

Scores of locals mostly women staged a protest outside the Badambagh Cantonment in Batawara Srinagar against water shortage in the area.

The aggrieved locals blocked traffic on the main road and demanded restoration of the water supply.

“We are facing immense problems due to water shortage,” they said adding that despite taking up the issue with the authorities nothing changed on the ground.

The traffic remained suspended on the busy road for an hour. Later civil and police officers reached the spot and assured the protestors that the matter would be taken up with the concerned authorities.
