“Permission has been allotted to only a few contractors to dump soil for the Ring Road while others are resorting to illegal practices without having any permission,” they said that filing of agricultural lands with the material will hit paddy production in the district.

The protesters demanded stern action against those truck owners whose trucks ferry the material from one place to another during the dead of the night.

They said the rampant filing is going on in various parts including Palhallan, Pattan, Zangam, Burn, Sangrama and Kanispora in Baramulla district.

The protesters appealed to the concerned authorities to take action against these goons and save paddy lands in the interest of the general population.

The SDM Pattan Syed Faheem assured that strict action will be taken against those who have illegally filled agricultural land. He said the filing would be stopped on a priority basis in order to secure and safeguard the paddy land. [KNT]
