BJP has fielded Tashi Gyalson for 2024 Parliament polls from Ladakh, dropping sitting MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal.
Tashi Gyalson’s candidature was announced by BJP’s Chief Election Committee on Tuesday. Gyalson who is a lawyer by profession is currently the chairman-cum-chief executive councillor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council in Leh.
The announcement from the party has disappointed the workers of the incumbent BJP MP from Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal.
Party sources said that Namgyal is not popular among the masses after the current Central Government virtually declined to fulfill the demands of civil society including the Statehood to Ladakh and its inclusion under the Sixth Schedule.
Namgyal had vehemently supported the Modi government for the abrogation of Article 370 and converting Ladakh into a Union Territory.
Local sources told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that this time it will not be an easy journey for the BJP candidate Tashi Gyalson.
The polling is scheduled for May 20 in the constituency. [KNT]
