Srinagar, Oct 23, KNT: Unnecessary traffic diversions at MA Road near Sangarmal and Abdullah Bridge intersection continue to plague commuters, sparking widespread frustration. The diversions, intended to streamline traffic flow, have instead become a source of sheer harassment for daily travelers.
The diversion near Sangarmal forces vehicles from Downtown heading to city centre areas via Lal Chowk to take a lengthy u-turn at the intersection near J&K Bank headquarters. This maneuver causes massive traffic congestion at the vital intersection, taking a heavy toll on commuters.
Eyewitnesses told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that policemen deployed at Abdullah Bridge diversion allow vehicles of VIPs and influential individuals to pass through while forbidding common people. This discriminatory approach has fueled public resentment.
Commuters are at their wit’s end, questioning the logic behind these traffic diversions. “We don’t understand the logic behind these traffic diversions,” said a frustrated commuter adding that these only serve to waste time, fuel, and energy.
The commuters said that repeated requests to Traffic Police to remove these unnecessary diversions have fallen on deaf ears.
“Traffic authorities must reassess and rectify the situation to provide relief to Srinagar’s commuters. The city’s residents deserve efficient, equitable, and hassle-free transportation solutions,” said a businessman. [KNT]
