Handwara, Nov 20, KNT: Police in North Kashmir’s Handwara, in collaboration with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), claimed to have apprehended an alleged drug smuggler who was carrying a whopping cash reward of half a million rupees.
Police identified the accused as Muneer Ahmad Banday, a resident of Banday Mohalla Handwara in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Police said that Banday was a proclaimed offender who had been evading arrest since June 2020.
Handwara Police in a statement to the news agency Kashmir News Trust said that the accused was wanted in connection with Case No. 03/2020 under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including sections 8/21, 17, 18, 20, 120-B, and 121. His involvement in a multi-million drug smuggling case had severe implications for funding illegal activities.
Police added that the arrest of Banday is a major success in the fight against organized crime. [KNT]
