Srinagar, Jan 24, KNT: Authorities have sealed a so-called “miracle medical centre” in the Saidpora Harwan area on the outskirts of Srinagar, where hundreds of patients reportedly sought unverified treatments for various ailments.
The clinic, allegedly run by Ghulam Qadir Reshi and his son Abdul Gani Reshi, came under scrutiny following reports of unauthorized medical practices. Acting on directions from medical authorities, a team led by Tehsildar Hazratbal visited the premises and sealed the facility.
Sources told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the team explicitly instructed the operators to cease all patient consultations and medical activities immediately.
Authorities have urged people to rely on licensed medical professionals and avoid seeking treatments from unverified sources.
‘This move is part of ongoing efforts to curb quackery and ensure proper healthcare standards in the Valley,” said an official.
Notably, the Department of Pediatrics at Government Medical College Srinagar had raised alarm over the dangerous rise in quackery, urging swift action to protect public health. A letter addressed to the Principal GMC Srinagar highlights multiple cases of acute liver failure (ALF) in patients seeking unverified medical treatments outside the hospital.
According to the letter, several patients previously discharged from the hospital have sought “miracle cures” and unproven therapies in the Dara Harwan area. Tragically, these treatments have resulted in their readmission to intensive care units (ICUs) with acute liver failure, often leading to fatal outcomes. [KNT]
