Exchange of Fire in RS Pora: Wanted Criminal Injured, Arrested by Police

Jammu, Jan 31, KNT: A police operation to apprehend a wanted criminal in RS Pora turned violent when the accused opened fire on a police team, prompting retaliation that left him injured.

The incident took place in the Langotian Chakalawal area when a police party attempted to arrest Paramjit Kumar, alias Jungi, a resident of Dhrapta, who was wanted in a criminal case.

Police sources told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that Kumar fired several shots at the police party with a revolver. In response, the police retaliated, injuring him in the foot. He was subsequently arrested and shifted to Government Medical College, Jammu, for treatment.

This encounter comes amid a heightened crackdown on criminal activities in Jammu, particularly after a youth was killed by a gang at Jewel Chowk. The region has witnessed a rise in gang-related violence, with a recent incident in Kathua claiming the life of a police sub-inspector during an operation. [KNT]
