Rahullah Calls for Release of Kashmir’s Political Prisoners Ahead of Jumu’atul-Wida

Srinagar, Mar 22, KNT: Kashmir Parliament member Syed Rahullah has raised concerns over the prolonged incarceration of political prisoners from the region, calling for their immediate release. In a statement shared on social media ahead of Jumu’atul-Wida, he highlighted the plight of detained activists and truth-tellers languishing in Indian jails.

Referring to cases of political prisoners, Rahullah mentioned Khurram, who has spent four years behind bars, separated from his children, and Irfan, who was arrested just a month after his marriage and has now completed two years in captivity. He lamented that these detentions continue while the world remains oblivious to their suffering.

“As Ramadan’s sacred nights begin, let our duas rise to Allah SWT for their freedom and an end to oppression,” Rahullah wrote. He urged people to remember the injustices faced by prisoners from Kashmir as well as others across India, including Sharjeel Imam and Umar Khalid, who remain incarcerated under various charges.

He linked their imprisonment to a broader pattern of oppression and repression, drawing parallels between the suffering in Kashmir and the situation in Gaza. Calling for prayers on Jumu’atul-Wida, the last Friday of Ramadan, Rahullah emphasized the significance of raising voices against injustice and standing in solidarity with the oppressed.

“Dua is our weapon. May Allah SWT hasten their release and grant them victory,” he added.

His remarks have once again brought focus to the issue of political detentions in Kashmir, a subject that has frequently drawn criticism from human rights organizations. Civil society groups have repeatedly demanded the release of political prisoners, citing concerns over their health and prolonged legal battles.

With the holy month of Ramadan nearing its end, voices calling for justice and release of prisoners are growing louder. Whether these appeals translate into action remains to be seen.
