Jammu, Apr 9, KNT: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Jammu has filed a charge-sheet against a former Corporator and her husband in connection with a bribery case involving the issuance of a Mulba Clearance Certificate. The charge-sheet has been submitted before the Hon’ble Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Jammu.
The case pertains to Jyoti Devi, the then Corporator of Ward No. 53, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, and her husband Sham Lal, who were caught red-handed while allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a local contractor. The complainant had sought a clearance certificate related to developmental works completed under the jurisdiction of the ward, which was required to process pending payments.
According to the ACB, the complainant refused to pay the demanded bribe and instead reported the matter to the bureau. A discreet verification was conducted, which substantiated the allegations against the Corporator. Following confirmation, a formal case was registered and a trap team was constituted to carry out a planned operation.
The ACB trap team successfully apprehended both Jyoti Devi and her husband Sham Lal at the time of accepting the bribe from the complainant. The bribe money was recovered on the spot in the presence of independent witnesses.

Following a thorough investigation and after obtaining sanction for prosecution from the competent authority, the ACB filed the charge-sheet before the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption Jammu. The court has subsequently transferred the case to the Hon’ble Court of Additional Special Judge Anti-Corruption Jammu for further judicial proceedings. [KNT]
