No Incidents Reported Overnight, Says Defence Spokesperson, Tense Border Regions Begin Returning to Normalcy

Srinagar, May 12, KNT: For the first time in days, Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a peaceful night, marking a significant shift following the May 10 ceasefire understanding between India and Pakistan. According to Defence spokesperson Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, no incidents were reported during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, signaling the first full night of calm after a week of cross-border hostilities.

“This is the first quiet night in recent days, with no violations or disturbances reported from anywhere in the Union Territory,” Lt Col Bartwal said on Monday.

The truce, reached on May 10, followed a sharp escalation of military tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, triggered by the Pahalgam attack. In its aftermath, several regions along the Line of Control and International Border  in Jammu and Kashmir bore the brunt of retaliatory shelling and gunfire.

With hostilities halted, towns including Akhnoor, Rajouri, Poonch, Uri, Srinagar, and Jammu, along with districts in Punjab such as Ferozepur and Amritsar, began showing visible signs of recovery and resumption of normal life. These areas had earlier been rattled by four consecutive days of heavy exchange of fire and projectile attacks, mostly originating from across the border. [KNT]
